In this work, we attempted to characterize branched polymers by comprehensive two-dimensional liquid chromatography (2DLC). The 2DLC consists of temperature gradient interaction chromatography (TGIC) as the first dimension and SEC as the second dimension separation. The individual TGIC fractions which are homogeneous in MW were subjected to the second dimension for SEC separation according to the hydrodynamic volume. The SEC effluents were analyzed by multiple detection (light scattering, viscosity and refractive index detectors) to obtain the branching index g’ as a function of MW. In this 2DLC experiment, we could confirm the limitation of single SEC separation in branched polymer analysis. |
