Benzotriazole (BTZ) units are known for relatively weak electron acceptors compared to benzothiadiazole, diketopyrrolopyrrole, and quinoxaline building blocks. However BTZ-based copolymers can still achieve reasonably high power conversion efficiency (PCE) in OPVs with a high open circuit voltage (Voc) short curcuit current (Jsc), cand fill factor(FF) even though they had medium band gap (~2.0eV). Here we present the synthesis and properties of the π-conjugated small molecule and polymer containing a BTZ building block. Among them, BTZCZ-8 was showed a best power conversion efficiency (PCE, over 5%) from the device of BTZCZ-8/PC[71]BM with a PEIE/ZnO interlayer in the inverted solar cell architecture. These result indicates the PCE of BTZ-based conjugated molecules can be improved by proper molecular engineering even though they have medium band gap. |
