Although nanocomposites composed of clays and polymers have been investigated to improve mechanical properties as well as thermal stability, it has been a difficult problem to synthesize uniformly dispersed clay-epoxy nanocomposite. Uniformly dispersed nanocomposites can offer more greatly improved properties. And improved properties are related to the degree of dispersion and exfoliation of clay particles in the polymer matrix. To synthesis well-dispersed nanocomposites, we used some kinds of organic solvents. Through chemical substitution on the surface, clays of Na+-montmorillonite can be modified to convert the surface from hydrophilic to organophilic, resulting in clays are dispersible in common organic solvents. Therefore selecting proper solvent was the key to make a well-dispersed nanocomposites. In this study homogenizer and 10um size-pulverized clay were used to make uniformly dispersed nanocomposites. The film was made from synthesized nanocomposites on the Zn-coated steel plate. SEM analyzed the film which was treated plasma to confirm the degree of dispersion. And SST(salt spray testor) also characterized. To investigate exfoliation, XRD was used. |
