Electrospray coating and controlled release of paclitaxel-loaded biodegradable polymers on stentmetal surface |

Little work has been reported about paclitaxel (PTX) release profile concerning inhibition of cell proliferation for two decades although many researchers have studied the efficacy of PTX known for inhibiting cell replication. This study aims to understand the release kinetics of PTX from biodegradable polymers for stents. The PTX-loaded films with various concentrations of the used drug in PCL were fabricated using two methods such as solution casting and electrospray. The surface of the films was characterized with SEM and the release kinetics of PTX were analyzed with HPLC. The release rate of PCL from the films made by solution casting was similar to that in electrospray under the same PTX concentrations. The results of similar release kinetics in two methods allow the drug-eluting stent coated by electrospray technique actually used for clinical applications. |
