제목 Smoke hazard of cypress specimen coated with boron/silicone flame retardant
초록 This study was performed to examine the combustion  characteristics  of cypress specimen for the constructional interiors, especially focusing on smoke generation characteristics. Smoke production properties were measured using a cone calorimeter (ISO 5660-2). The external heat flux was maintained at 50 kW/m2. Flame retardants were synthesized by using boric acid or boronic acid and tetraethoxysilicate. The total smoke release rates of BA/Si and BA/IBBA sol were 322.5 m2/m2 and 444.3 m2/m2 respectively and decreased by 29% and 2% respectively compared with cypress specimen. However, the total smoke release rate of PBA/Si sol was 520.8 m2/m2, which was 15% higher than that of cypress specimen. The total smoke production of PBA/Si sol was 4.6 m2, which was 15% higher than the 4.01 m2 of untreated wood.  The flame retardants of boron/silicon sol have been shown to play a role in reducing smoke production.
