With an ever increasing demand for high performance of polymeric materials, scratch behavior of polymer has recently become an important research topic in industrial and academic fields. Although relevant to applications like automotive, Information Technology (IT) and packaging fields, a fundamental understanding of polymer scratch behavior is still lacking. In this paper, it can be attributed to the fact that scratch research is still a growing field and that more fundamental effort is required to improve the methodology from a quantitative to a quantitative to evaluate scratch behavior of polymeric materials. For testing standards like ASTM and ISO, scratch test methods of polymeric materials are reviewed and various testing equipments to perform scratch experiments are categorized. In addition, some cutting-wedge issues to quantify the scratch resistance are introduced (i.e., scratch visibility loading mode and mar phenomenon). |
