Introduction to Standardized Test Methodology for Scratch Characterization of polymeric Materials |

The current international standards, which could quantify the scratch characterization of polymers, have been introduced. ASTM D7027 and ISO/FDIS 19252 are representative test standards for the scratch behavior of polymeric materials. ASTM D7027 has two test modes i.e., a constant load and an increasing load. The scratching coefficient of friction and the critical normal load are determined using those modes, respectively. In order to analyze scratch behaviors, ISO/FDIS 19252 has proposed the scratch map which is drawn through various test conditions. However, both ASTM D7027 and ISO/FDIS 19252 still appear to be insufficient as a quantitative test method for the scratch characterization of polymers. |
