Highly ordered mesoporous bioactive glasses (MBGs) with large specific surface area, pore volume, and a uniformly distributed pore size were synthesized by evaporation-induced self-assembly in the presence of a nonionic triblock copolymer template. The morphology of the mesostructure can be controlled by adjusting m/n ratio of poly (ethylene oxide)1/2/poly (propylene oxide) (EO1/2/PO) in the triblock copolymer (EO)m(PO)n(EO)m. The texture properties and compositional homogeneity of MBG were characterized in detail. We also developed the hierarchically giant-, macro- and meso-porous ceramics or ceramics/polymers composite scaffolds used for the regeneration of hard tissue containing MBGs with improved structural properties and superior bioactivities by the combinations of the polymer template method, the salt-leaching method, and the rapid prototyping technique. |
