Carbazole-containing polymers exhibit interesting electrooptical and charge-carrier properties in organic light-emitting devices (OLEDs), solar cells, and electro-chromic devices. Polynorbornenes modified with various imide moities present excellent optical transparency, thermal stability, and good mechanical toughness. On the other hand, anode-hole transporting layer (HTL) interface is crucial to OLED performance because ITO-HTL contact rather than HTL bulk mobility limits hole-transport in OLEDs. In this regard, we synthesized new carbazole-containing polynorbornene homo-/copolymers through ring-opening metathesis polymerization and their hybrids with silica which endow covalent-bonding between inter or intra polynorbornene chains as well as between ITO anode and polynorbornene chains. We also fabricated OLEDs and hole-only devices (HODs) using these carbazole-containing norbornenes and their hybrids as a hole transport layer and characterized their optical and electrical properties. |
