제목 Modification of Hydrotalcite for Polymer Nanocomposite
초록 The organic/inorganic nanocomposites have opened a new horizon of composite materials. The high stiffness, dimensional and thermal stability of inorganic materials and the toughness, processability and dielectric properties of polymers can be combined properly in nanocomposites. In this study, the modification of hydrotalcite(HT) had been examined for the preparation of polymer nanocomposite.
It is known that HT-type compound belongs to the large class of natural and synthetic layered double hydroxides(LDHs). LDHs have the general formula [M(II)1-x M(III)x(OH)2]x+Ax/zz-·mH2O, where M is a metal cation, A is an exchangeable anion. The layers are intercalated with anions, in order to balance the residual charge. A large variety of HT-type compounds that contain several kinds of anions like Cl-, CO32-, NO3-, SO42-, etc. One of the most important properties of the HT-type material is its high anionic exchange capacity related to their lamellar structure that allows the exchange of its original anions with those present in an aqueous solution1. HT is one of the anionic clays that consisting of sheets of octahedral magnesium and tetrahedral aluminum double hydroxides which share their edges. It's positive residual charge is balanced by intercalated carbonate anions2.
An organophilic HT was prepared by the ion exchange reaction. The HT was added to the solution of modifier(sodium dodecylsulfate, SDS), and the mixture was stirred and then filtered. The polymer nanocomposite can be obtained with various methods such as solution method, in-situ method and melting method. The interlayer spacing of modified HT(MHT) and the nanoscale dispersion of HT layers in the PS(or PMMA) matrix was characterized by XRD. And the structure of MHT was examined by FT-IR. In addition, the thermal properties of nanocomposites were analyzed by DSC and TGA.
