제목 Controlling Harmful Algal Blooms using Chemical Processed Clays  
초록 The deleterious effects of harmful algal blooms (HABs) pose serious threats to aquatic life, animal and human health because the rapid growth and the ability of toxins production. Over three decades, clays have been investigated in several countries for HABs removal. However, one of major concern about clay application is high clay loading requirement. Therefore, it’s necessary to reduce amount of clay loading by some modified methods. The chemical processed clays (PRCs) used in this study which were modified of a natural clay by sodium hydroxide and sulfuric acid. The capability of PRCs in removal of Microcystis aeruginosa blooms was investigated. The results showed that PRCs which treated with high concentration of sulfuric acid showed higher effective in removal of M. aeruginosa cells. Clay loading amount when using these clays was reduced about 50% in comparison with natural clay. The results of this study indicate that PRCs can be consider as effective media for removal of HABs.
