Effect of polar solvents on the formation ferroelectric thin films of poly(vinylidene fluoride) |

In recent times, many researchers have reported the possible applications of ferroelectric poly(vinylidene fluoride) thin films in nonvolatile and low-cost memory devices. In the present investigation, we have prepared thin films of ferroelectric crystalline phase of PVDF on ITO substrate by spin-coating from the polar solvents. The contact angle measurements of the selected solvents on ITO substrate were performed to evaluate the solvent-substrate interaction. Fourier-Transform infrared spectroscopy was used in the identification and confirmation of the presence of β-phase and its chain orientation. The digital photographic images were taken to visualize the morphology of the resultant thin films. Atomic force microscopic images were used to evaluate the surface topography of the thin films.
