Novel synthesis, characterization and application of porphyrin-based metal catalyst for ring-opening copolymerization of propylene oxide and carbon dioxide |

In this study, a facile strategy for the synthesis of a new catalyst system for ring-opening copolymerization of propylene oxide (PO) with carbon dioxide has been demonstrated. The well-defined homogenous porphyrin/Al catalyst was efficiently prepared by refluxing pyrrole with 4-(dimethylamino)benzaldehyde in propionic acid. The catalyst was extensively characterized by 1H-NMR, FT-IR, EDS and MS. The synthesized catalyst was employed for the copolymerization of PO and carbon dioxide in various conditions. The structure, molecular weight and thermal property of the copolymers were investigated by FT-IR, 1H-NMR, GPC, and DSC. Further studies on the tuning of catalyst architecture are in progress. |
