Two-dimensional hybrid composites of rGO/La2Ti2O7/NiFe-LDH for highly efficient photocatalytic water splitting reaction |

We report a strategically designed heterojunction between three types of two-dimensional materials to promote efficient charge separation and to further optimize the water-splitting reaction via photocatalytic reaction without the usage of any noble metal cocatalysts. The material is composed of reduced graphene oxide (rGO) for the hydrogen evolution reaction cocatalyst, NiFe-layered double hydroxide (NiFe-LDH) for the oxygen evolution reaction cocatalyst, and lanthanum titanate (LTO) as the photocatalyst. The photo-generated charges from LTO are efficiently separated to rGO (electron sink) and NiFe-LDH (hole sink) for the water splitting reaction. Under the solar simulator (AM 1.5), the catalyst exhibited enhanced HER performances up to 9 times compared to the control sample. The mechanism of such high performance of the synthesized photocatalysts could be attributed to the efficient charge separation and longer lifetime of photogenerated charges. |
