Highly aligned polarization splay modulated (B7) smectic liquid crystal with linearly polarized light emission |
초록 |
Among the polar smectic phases, B7 phase of which layer is undulated by polarization modulation is the one of the most exotic phases, forming beautiful optical textures.[1] In general, it is hard to generate only one optical texture among them, selectively.[2] To generate large optical texture, we have utilized chemically modifying substrates using self-assembled monolayers (SAM). And the liquid crystalline molecules uniaxially aligned under an applied in-plane electric field, resulting in linearly polarized light emission due to fluorescence of the molecules. The fabricated B7 film will provide great opto-electronic applications such as a linearly polarized light emission film and a fast light modulator. References [1] T. Niori et al., J. Mater.
