제목 Highly aligned polarization splay modulated (B7) smectic liquid crystal with linearly polarized light emission
초록 Among the polar smectic phases, B7 phase of which layer is undulated by polarization modulation is the one of the most exotic phases, forming beautiful optical textures.[1] In general, it is hard to generate only one optical texture among them, selectively.[2] To generate large optical texture, we have utilized chemically modifying substrates using self-assembled monolayers (SAM). And the liquid crystalline molecules uniaxially aligned under an applied in-plane electric field, resulting in linearly polarized light emission due to fluorescence of the molecules. The fabricated B7 film will provide great opto-electronic applications such as a linearly polarized light emission film and a fast light modulator. References [1] T. Niori et al., J. Mater.
