Enthalpy Profile-Cure State Relationship of Compounded Rubber by DSC |

Virgin natural rubber(NR)/recycled NR and NR/styrene butadiene rubber(SBR) were prepared with a variety of cure states and investigated with respect to cure state and cure cycle by utilizing DSC cure enthalpy method. As the crosslinking of the both blends increased with the extent of cure, the exotherm indicating the residual vulcanization reaction decreased. Unlike NR/SBR blend, virgin NR/recycled NR one showed positive enthalpy due to the reversion process which is seen more sensitive to recycled NR. It was observed that fractional cure(Xn) of both blends increased with the extent of cure but residual cure(1-Xn) increased. In addition, the residual heat of vulcanization was proportional to the unreacted cure system and is a function of time. |
