Effect of SIS on proliferation and characterization of Olfactory Ensheathing Cells |

Small intestinal submucosa(SIS) widely used as a natural biomaterial is isolated from the small intestine of porcine. SIS can be made into a medically useful material for many clinical applications. SIS composed of collagen Ⅰ, Ⅲ types like skin. SIS generates a minimal inflammatory response following implantation. SIS potential promotes adhesion, proliferation of cells. Olfactory ensheathing cells(OECs), which are derived from the olfactory bulb, promote axonal regeneration and functional outcome after spinal cord injury. In this study, we cultured OECs on SIS sheet and evaluated SIS sheet on proliferation and phenotype maintenance of OECs. Cell proliferation activity was measured by MTT assay. The morphology of the cells was analyzed by scanning electron microscope(SEM). These results suggest that SIS affect to improve cell adhesion and proliferation.
