제목 Absorption properties of acrylates based Superabsorbent polymer using various comonomers
초록 Super absorbent polymers (SAPs) can absorb a large amount of water in swollen state in a short time and retains water under pressure. The carboxylized acrylic monomer (CAM) is effective for increasing the absorption capacity of SAPs by hydrophilic functional groups such as dicarboxylic acid. Also CAM has feature such as efficient copolymerization reaction using radical polymerization because it has vinyl groups. However, because CAM has a low reaction rate that, it is difficult to use it commercially. We studied to improve the reaction rate and the absorption properties of SAPs using CAM and comonomers. Acrylic acid, acryl amid, and vinyl sulfonic acid were used as comonomers of SAPs. The structures of the SAPs were characterized by FT-IR. We studied the water absorbency characteristics of the SAPs according to the type of comonomer by measuring free absorbency, centrifuge retention capacity, and absorbency under load.
