These days, changing the properties of crystalline materials by adding polymers during crystallization has been investigated as an important strategy in many areas. There are lots of benefits that can be achievable by this strategy such as high efficiencey, controlling drug release rate and reduced processing costs. Here, we used the polymers generally regarded as safe to tailor the properties of natural polyphenols. A drowning-out crystallization method was used to perform the polymer-directed crystallization of quercetin in presence of polymers: The anti-solvent was injected to a solution of quercetin and polymer. It showed that the morphology of quercetin crystals has been changed in cases of hydroxypropyl methylcellulose(HPMC), polyethyleneimine(PEI) and polyvinyl alcohol(PVA) by SEM. DSC showed the distinction between the cases with polymer and without polymer. This method has an effect on changing the properties of queretin and it could act on releasing behavior of quercetin. |
