Hydrogels have good water uptaking property and could be applied in various fields such as antifouling film formation. However, the critical weak point of hydrogels for commercialization is its poor mechanical property. In this study, we coat Polyethylene glycol(PEG)/Polydimethylsiloxane(PDMS) and poly(N-isopropyl acrylamide)(PNIPAM)/PDMS blend surface film on polyurethane. We first prepared porous films of PEG and PNIPAM by using a Directional Melting crystallization (DMC) method. PU surfaces were also treated by a surface DMC method to make porous surfaces. Subsequently, we infiltrated PDMS into the pores of both the PU and the hydrogel after they were sandwiched. The structure of the blend films is observed by a scanning electron microscope(SEM) and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy(EDS). Distinct volume transition behavior of PNIPAm based on LCST was observed in micron scale observation. The mechanical property of hydrogel coating was assessed by micro-indentation. |
