Recently, fuel cells are attracting much attention in science and engineering fields because of high efficiency in energy conversion and low emission of greenhouse gas compared to fossil fuels. Direct methanol fuel cell (DMFC) is considered as a power source for next generation portable electronic devices due to its high power density. Efficiencies of DMFC systems have strong relations with activation losses, ohmic resistance losses and mass transfer losses. Because most of the voltage decreases except the decreases by activation losses are correlated with transport behaviors or permeability of PEMs, permeability is an important property for evaluation of PEMs. In this talk, bidirectional permeability of proton exchange membranes was appraised using a 1H nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) technique. |
