Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) was used for the chemical treatment of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs). It has been shown that surface treatment of MWCNTs with H2O2 can introduce some functional groups on the surface of MWCNTs, but when MWCNTs undergo surface treatment with H2O2 at high temperature and enough time, their walls were destroyed by the strong oxidation reaction. When their were used for fillers of polymer composites, mechanical properties of composites can be much more increased because the surface roughness effect of H2O2 treated MWCNTs. MWCNTs with a rough surface (R-MWCNTs) were fabricated by the different reaction procedure with H2O2. the morphology of R-MWCNTs was confirmed by Raman, FE-SEM and TEM. Mechanical properties of some polymer composites containg R-MWCNTs were effectively increased by the effect of surfact roughness. |
