Recently, liquid crystal displays (LCDs) and OLEDs are competing each other though present information display market is dominant by LCDs. LCDs are trying to evolve everyday to show high performance with low cost, and recently LCDs based on Kerr effect is uprising. New device attracts great interest because it shows fast response and wide viewing angle with alignment layer free and the feature of new LCD is suitable for large-sized LCDs. However, the device shows relatively high operating voltage and low transmittance compared to conventional LCDs. In this talk, recent research trends on new device and materials for improving electro-optic characteristics will be reviewed. In addition, possibility of application of carbon nanotube cluster as a novel nonemissive light modulator will be reviewed. |
