Study on the removal of organic micropollutants from aqueous solutions by surfactant modified organic hectorite |

The existence of organic micropollutants in water bodies has become a worldwide issue, and an increasing environmental concern. In this regards, the present study deals with the synthesis of hexadecyl trimethylammonium bromide(HDTMA) modified hectorite by aging the synthesised gel precursors at mild reflux condition and efficient application for the treatment of wastewater contaminated with micropollutant diclofenac. The efficient and effective treatment of aquatic environment contaminated with diclofenac sodium under the batch and fixed-bed column reactor operations. Batch data is obtained for various physico-chemical parametric studies. The kinetics of the uptake of diclofenac by these solids is conducted using the pseudo-first, pseudo-second order rate equations. The adsorption isotherm studies evaluated by the Langmuir and Freundlich model for describing the adsorption behaviour of synthesized organohectorite. |
