Study on the Effect of Amine functionalized Graphene Oxide on Curing Kinetics of Epoxy Nanocomposites |

Graphene oxide (GO) prepared via chemical exfoliation of graphite was functionalized using hexamethylenediamine to generate amine functionalized GO. The influence of these amine functionalized graphene oxide on the curing kinetics of diglycidyl ether of 4,4′-bisphenol-epoxy mesogenic resin was studied by non-isothermal differential scanning calorimetry at various heating rates. The kinetic parameters of the curing processes of the neat, pristine and functionalized GO filled epoxy were determined using isoconversional methods viz. Kissinger and Friedman methods. The activation energy calculated by Kissinger method clearly depicts the autocatalytic reactions in these systems. In comparison to GO filled epoxy system, epoxy nanocomposites loaded with amine functionalized GO showed lower activation energy (Eα) over the range of conversion (α) revealing the enhanced curing reactions. |
