TiO2 nanotubes for enhancing the performance of dye-sensitized solar cells |

Manipulating structures of photoanode is one of the most effective ways to improve efficiency of dye-sensitized solar cells such as fabricating 1) a high surface area for the loading of dye molecules; 2) a tailored microstructure for light harvesting/fast electron transport. Recently, much effort has been paid to development of bi-functional oxide film materials composed of a thin surface layer of nanocrystalline particles to effectively adsorb dye molecules and low-dimensional materials to confine the incident light within the electrode and/or to enhance the electron conduction. Here we used TiO2 nanotubes in between TiO2 nanoparticles layers. And we investigate the improvement over the performance of DSSC. Well-ordered arrays of one-dimensional TiO2 nanotubes have been fabricated with a two-step anodization method and the tubes were transferred on TCO glass and/or in between TiO2 nanoparticles layers for fabricating DSSC. The TiO2 nanotubes which growing in the second–step anodization appreciably outperformed those fabricated with the conventional one step Ti anodization in terms of size uniformity and arrangement orderliness. We observed that structures and loading sequence of TiO2 nanotubes and other factors could result different influence on the cell efficiency. |
