Due to the great interest to multifunctional polymeric materials, we have had much attention to the synthesis of novel side-chain azopolymers and their characteristics. Photoisomerization of azobenzene groups under polarized light make photoorientation of the side groups which can be used with advantage for the optical information recording and storage. Herein we report synthesis and characterization of new azopolymers with alkali metal binding site, mesogenic, and fluorogenic side groups. 1H-NMR, UV-Vis, and PL spectra showed the complexation of the azopolymers with alkali metal salts under UV (365 nm) irradiation and their specific fluorescent behaviours. In addition, the possibility of application of the azopolymers to alkali metal detection sensor will be described. |
