A number of stimuli-responsive smart materials have been developed and extensively investigated. Among these materials, the photo-responsive materials containing photochromic compounds such as azobenzene, stilbene, and spiropyran have been widely studied over the past couple of decades because of their unique optical properties. This class of materials has potential for applications in the fields such as optical storage, sensors and actuators. In this study, we report on new photo-cured films based on urethane acrylate oligomer/ Trimethylolpropane ethoxy Triacrylate/ 1,6 Hexanediol Diacrylate containing difunctional azobenzene acrylate (DAA) and difunctional azobenzene vinyl ether (DAVE), respectively. In addition, we investigated the compositional effects on the photomechanical properties of these films. When the film was irradiated with UV, its elongation in the direction of the tensile load was observed and the degree of strain reached a maximum at about 0.15%. |
