Polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) has been used as glue stick, hot-melt adhesives, special additive for batteries, ceramics and inkjet paper. In addition, since it is biocompatible, it can be applied as a medical adhesive. Most acrylic polymers are flexible due to their low glass transition temperature and can be used as pressure-sensitive adhesives (PSAs) in various fields because their physical properties can be easily controlled according to monomer composition. The hydrophilicity of the adhesives for transdermal drug delivery patch is an important factor that can control the affinity with the drug. In this study, we tried to control hydrophilicity through blending of PVP and acrylic PSAs for develop a pressure-sensitive adhesive for transdermal drug delivery patches. Hydrophilic acrylic polymers were synthesized by free-radical polymerization in order to improve miscibility with hydrophilic PVP. |
