Conventional copolymerization of methyl methacrylate and urushiol-ester for antibacterial and antifouling application |
초록 |
Methyl methacrylate and esterified urushiol were polymerized via conventional free radical polymerization route to give a series of poly (methyl methacrylate) - urushiol ester polymer blends. The blends were ensured to contain varied weight percentages of esterified urushiol (UMA). The polymer systems were characterized by various physico-spectroscopic techniques such as FT-IR, 1H NMR and TGA. The obtained polymer systems were primed into films and subjected to antimicrobial and antifouling studies against various fouling micro-organisms. The confocal laser scanning micrographs obtained demonstrate an excellent antimicrobial response of the polymers against Pseudomonas aeruginosa biofilm formation. Inhibitory attachment effect against two strains of fouling microalgae, Nitzschia and Navicula incerta was also studied. |
