제목 | Self-assemblies of star-shaped macromolecule with coil-rod-coil ABC triblock |
초록 | The control of supramolecular nanostructure in self-assembling materials is to achieve desired functions and properties in materials science. Rod-coil molecules consisting of a rigid rod block and a flexible coil block represent a novel class of self-assembling materials. These interesting supramolcular assemblies are believed to arise from the competition of microphase separation between coil and rod blocks into ordered periodic structures, and the tendency of the rod block to form anisotropic, orientationally ordered structures. Star-shaped molecule consists of coil-rod-coil triblock, which is hydrophobic docosyl alkyl coil, hydrophobic two biphenyl rod, and hydrophilic poly (ethylene oxide)s coil. Star-shaped macromolecule was synthesized, and the thermotropic phase behavior was investigated by a combination of techniques of differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), polarized optical microscopy (POM), and X-ray diffraction (XRD) measurements. In crystalline state, it shows three lamellar crystalline assemblies. In liquid crystalline state, it shows tetragonally perforated lamellar (TPL), hexagonal columnar, and spherical micellar mesophases as temperature increases. Interestingly, it has TPL mesophase rather than HPL, which is thermodynamically more stable. |
