An effective surface modification of carbon fibers for improving the interfacial adhesion of thermoplastic composites |
초록 |
Carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) has been widely used in many engineering fields because of its high specific strength and stiffness. However, thermoplastic does not adhere well with carbon fibers because it has a low free surface energy. In addition, high viscosity in the melted phase causes poor impregnation. In this study, electrochemical oxidation and silane coupling agent treatment were performed to improve the interfacial strength between carbon fiber and polarized-polypropylene. The changes of interfacial properties were analyzed by using field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). Mechanical interfacial properties of the carbon fiber/polarized-polypropylene composites were investigated by using interfacial shear strength (IFSS) measurement. |
