Highly conductive poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT) nanorods were fabricated through reverse microemulsion polymerization. 3,4-ethylenedioxythio-phene monomer was introduced in aqueous FeCl3/AOT/hexane phase and polymerized on the surface of AOT reverse cylindrical micelles, causing the formation of PEDOT nanorods. PEDOT nanorods were used as the sensing material for the detection of toxic chemicals. These nanorods sensors had high sensitivity to NH3 and HCl vapor concentration as low as 20 ppm and 5 ppm, respectively. In addition, the sensors displayed excellent reproducibility and reversibility in chemical vapor responses. |
