The noble vesicular system of polydiacetylene showed a red shift as the entrapped moieties diffuse through the vesicle layers or adsorb on the surface. The chromatic vesicles of N-(2-aminoethyl)pentacosa-10,12-diynamide (AEPCDA) was fabricated by adding dimethyldioctadecylammonium chloride (DODAC), and polymerized by the irradiation of UV. The stability of monomeric vesicles increases with polymerization of the vesicles. The polymerized mixed vesicles having a blue color were exposed to a concentration gradient of methotrexate, and a red shift was observed indicating the permeation of methotrexate through the polydiacetylene bilayer. The intensity and contrast of blue and red color apparently indicates the disturbance of membrane or interface induced by the permeation of methotrexate. The maximum contrast of color appears at the equal ratio of molarity of AEPCDA and DODAC, indicating that the formation of flexible and deformable vesicular layers is important for red shift. Therefore, the system can be applicable to the chromatic detection of the permeation of methotrexate through the polydiacetylene layer. |
