Aerogel and porous materials have been used as thermal insulating materials due to their extremely-low thermal conductivity, compared with that of non-porous materials. However, in general they show poor compression strength which limits practical application in many uses. To achieve both excellent thermal insulating and good mechanical properties simultaneously, we prepare novel porous polyurea aerogels consisting of isocyanates and amines by sol-gel processing and supercritical carbon dioxide drying. These materials are highly porous, lightweight, and thermally stable. The pore size, morphology and surface area of aerogels were investigated by SEM, TEM and BET measurements. |
