Visible light photocatalyst based on TiO2/Ag binary nanocomposites were successfully synthesized by graft polymerization approach. The prepared visible light photocatalysts were characterized using FT-IR, UV–vis spectroscopy, TGA, XRD, TEM, and XPS. The TiO2/Ag binary nanocomposites show greatly enhanced photocatalytic performance for the degradation of methyl orange under visible light as well as UV irradiation, compared to pristine TiO2. The enhanced photocatalytic activity of TiO2/Ag binary nanocomposites under visible light irradiation could be attributed to enhancing the plasmonic effect and suppressing the recombination rate of the electron-hole pairs. This novel study provides more insight for the development of novel visible light responsive TiO2/Ag binary nanocomposites based photocatalysts for energy applications. |
