The Protecting Layer Effect on the Gas Transport Properties of Graphene Oxide/Polymer Thin Film Composite Membranes |

Two-dimensional nanocarbons such as graphene and graphene oxide (GO) have been widely studied for their unique mechanical and chemical properties. In addition, GO and highly CO2-selectively permeable polymer composite materials have been gained much interest in membrane science due to the exceptional CO2 separation performance. However, the large scale production of GO/polymer membranes for industrial uses have been challenged for their micro-defects which occur during the coating process in large scale. The micro-defects deteriorate gas transport properties seriously, so we tried to use the polymer protecting layer on top of the selective layer to cover the defects. The protecting layer adopted GO/polymer composite membranes showed recovered CO2/N2 selectivities with good long term stabilities. The gas transport properties of protecting layer coated GO/polymer membranes will be discussed in terms of single gas permeances and mixed gas (CO2/N2) selectivities as a function of time. |
