Although light has drawn attention, the cytotoxic effects of conventional light sources based on their physical properties such as temperature and luminance, has not known enough. With human adipose-derived stem cells (hADSCs), the cytotoxic effects of representative light sources, a light-emitting diode (LED) and an organic light-emitting diode (OLED) was studied. Significant heat by LED induced higher apoptotic activity in LED group was observed than OLED. The effect of luminance by irradiating light from LED and OLED under the same temperature and energy conditions also indicated increased cell proliferation in the OLED group. A significant expression of intracellular reactive oxygen species was shown in the LED group. Temperature and luminance control with OLED irradiation can vary cytotoxicity and cellular response after LED. This study shows that OLED based device is a promising light source in future biomedical and cosmetic application field. |
