제목 Performance and operation of BAC in advanced water treatment process
초록 Performance of BAC(biological activated carbon) in ozone-BAC advanced water treatment process was evaluated using the pilot plant built in "D" water treatment plant site of "B" city which uses Nakdong river as a source of water supply. The performance was estimated with the removal efficiency of DOC, BDOC, and THMs. The effects of temperature and EBCT on the amount of microorganisms on activated carbon, the backwash period, and the removal of organic carbons were also investigated.
BAC showed the removal of greater than 40% in average for DOC and greater than 60% for BDOC. DOC removal rate was decreased as water temperature lowers. In the case of THMs, the removal was about 50%. The microorganisms on activated carbon grew rapidly as operating temperature in BAC is raised in summer, and the mass of microorganisms was increased. This made the backwash period short because of filling the void volume up between activated carbon granules by microorganisms and blocking the path of water. DOC removal efficiencies were almost same at 12.5 and 15.5 min EBCTs and higher at 21.2 min.
