Efficient two-photon absorption (TPA) materials can be utilized for various applications such as for optical power limiting, three-dimensional optical data storage, photodynamic therapy and 3-D lithographic microfabrication. For these applications of TPA chromophores, we have been synthesized five multi-branched ethynylenephenylene derivatives with the carbazole or triphenylamine as electron donors (D) which are attached symmetrically at the both end of conjugated linkers; forming D-π-D structures. The strong nonlinear absorption of all these materials induced to an efficient optical power limiting (OPL) activity. The trend in OPL behavior agrees well with the size of TPA intensity. By the TPA induced photopolymerization using the resulting TPA chromophores, we have succeed to fabricate various micro-devices |
