Bis[3-(triethoxysilyl)propyl]tetrasulfide (Si-69) is commonly used as a coupling agent in the hybridization of silica and polymer. In this study, the hydrate of Si-69 obtained from the hydrolysis of Si-69 in the presence of acid (pH 3-5) and applied to the composition of silica/polymer. The hydrate includes about 60-70% hydroxyl groups on silicon atoms. The hydrate treated with silica nanoparticles through simple evaporation and dried at 130℃ for 5 h. The modified silica particles were characterized by NMR, IR and TEM/EDX and applied to the formulation with solution styrene-butadiene rubber (SSBR). The mechanical properties of silica/SSBR hybrid composites were analyzed by Oscillating Disc Rheometer(ODR), Dynamic Mechanical Analysis (DMA) and Universal Testing machine (UTM). In this presentation, we will discuss the synthesis and properties of modified silica particles and silica/SSBR hybrid composites in details. |
