Cross-linked sulfonated hydrocarbon based membrane using perfluoropolyether as a cross-linker for polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells |

Cross-linked sulfonated poly(arylene ether sulfone) membrane (C-SPAES) is developed by simple and effective cross-linking technology using perfluoropolyether (PFPE) having bishydroxy end groups as a cross-linker for polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell application. C-SPAES shows much improved chemical and mechanical properties and reasonably high proton conductivity compared to the linear SPAES due to the effective cross-linked structaure and phase-separated morphology between SPAES and PFPE. Under, 90 oC and 50% RH conditions, C-SPAES shows an outstanding cell performance (1.17 W cm-2 at 0.65 V) ascribed to its well-developed phase-separated morphology and enhanced interfacial compatibility between electrode and membrane. In addition, C-SPAES reveals notable durability during the wet/dry cycling condition. |
