One of the important technology in the development of an optical pH sensor is the design and synthesis of dyes displaying fluorescence response with pH changes. To develop new optical pH sensors based on the fluorescence of dyes, we synthesized a (pyridinyliden)indene-1,3-dione derivative possessing a hydroxystyryl group and examined its optical propertie in various pH ranges. The hydroxyl group is deprotonated in basic media, which led to a variation in the absorption and emission properties. This dye displays the fluorescence decrease within the pH range 7 - 11. |
