제목 The role of electrostatic interactions in structural stability and dynamic flexibility of RNA
초록 Charge neutralization of RNAs nucleates self-assembly into folded structures critical for their biological functions. However, thermodynamic interplay between electrostatic and tertiary interactions upon folding and conformational fluctuation remains largely unexplored, although it is directly linked to both non-equilibrium and equilibrium energy landscape of RNA folding. Time-resolved SAXS studies show that multiphasic folding of RNA varies with electrostatic natures and potentials. According to quasielastic neutron scattering studies, sub-ns dynamics of RNA increases with cations, while they stabilizes the folded structure. Similar cation-induced flexibility observed in a sulfonated PS indicates that local motions of RNA follow polyelectrolyte effects rather than specific interactions pertaining to its biological structures. Comparison between structural stability and dynamic flexibility proposes a thermodynamic expression that links electrostatic interactions to molecular mechanics.
