Plasmonics have been recognized as a promising platform that may premise advanced optoelectronics. Representative exploitation of plasmonics has been shown for photovoltaics, photodection, light emission and biomedical theragnostics. We first comprehensively overview the state-of-the-art development of plasmonic solar cells. Wavelength-selective photodiodes with enhanced detectivity is developed utilizing shape-controlled noble metal nanoparticles. A few strategies for efficient solar fuel generation are proposed via visible light active water splitting. Plasmon-induced enhanced emission in fluorophores and phosphores is also discussed based on core-shell nanoparticles and purely organic crystals. Surface plasmon based optical biosensors constitute a well-established model that efficiently realized the activity of plasmonics for viable optoelectronics. We also introduce plasmon-mediated photodynamic/photothermal therapy with enhanced functions. |
