This research reports on the fabrication of porous silica films using a new functional amphiphilic polymer (UAN) via two methods. Firstly, the coating solution was prepared by free radical polymerization of UAN and MMA followed by addition of TEOS as a source of inorganic nanoparticles. Secondly, PMMA was introduced into I-O hybrid sols prepared using UAN and TEOS. Spin-coated films on glass were calcinated to remove the template to give rise to a porous nanostructure. After surface modification, hydrophobicity of the films significantly improved. Pencil hardness test showed that the films were mechanically robust. Besides contributing to the stability of I-O hybrid solution, UAN enhanced microphase separation and self-assembly in the film matrix. TGA and XPS were also carried out to establish the thermal degradation properties of the coating solution and the composition of the films respectively. |
