Hard Coatings on Polycarbonate Plate by Sol-Gel Reactions of Silicate, Titanate, and Silica |

Polycarbonate seem to be ideal glazing materials for automobiles. However, because of the wear resistance, polycarbonate windows often quickly lose transparency. In order to control the wear, abrasion-resistant coatings have been developed over the past few years by sol gel reaction. In this research, tetrapropyl orthotitanate (TPOT), (3-glycidoxypropyl)trimethoxysilane (GPTMS), and colloidal silica (CS) were used to prepare the coatings by sol-gel process. The optimum conditions and the formulation to get the excellent physical properties were determined. The mole ratio of the compounds, selection of the solvent and the amount of catalyst were characterized. The smooth coating which got 1H-2H class at pencil hardness were formed by sol-gel process in this research. |
