Dispersion method of carbon nanotubes using end functionalized polystyrene |

Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have attracted great scientific and technological attention because of their potential applications in fabricating novel materials and devices. However, the limited dispersion of carbon nanotubes in organic solvents obstructs utilizing the superior properties of individual carbon nanotubes. In order to utilize those properties, it is necessary to develop a practical strategy to promote the dispersion. Here, we introduce a new dispersion method for carbon nanotubes using end functionalized polystyrene. Amine terminated polystyrene can interact with the surfaces of multi-walled carbon nanotubes. The noncovalent functionalization enhances the dispersibility of carbon nanotubes in organic solvent and polymer matrix. |
