Membrane nanofiltration has been widely employed to reduce the high operation costs in conventional purification techniques. Among various types of membranes, thin laminates consisting of two-dimensional materials have advantages such as high flux and stability. In this work, we fabricated 90 nm thick graphene oxide (GO)/Ti3C2Tx laminated membranes by vacuum filtration. Ti3C2Tx MXene possesses a small interlayer distance with a hydrophilic surface, favorable to employ as high performance membranes. The introduction of GO sheets allowed the regular stacking of Ti3C2Tx, with an overall interlayer distance of 14.28 Å when swelled in water. Membranes displayed an effective interlayer distance of 5 Å, effectively rejecting molecules larger than 7 Å, as well as positively charged molecules. Rejection rate for methyl red, methylene blue, rose Bengal, and brilliant blue were 68%, 99.5%, 61%, and 100% respectively. |
