Graphene oxide (GO), typical two-dimensional material has well-ordered stacking structure with uniform interlayer spacing. Stacked GO provides fast water transport and rejects the target molecule under harsh chemical and mechanical conditions. However, at practical application the stacked GO films spontaneously delaminated in aqueous solution due to hydrophilic surface with a lot of oxygen groups. To enhance stability of GO membranes, we functionalized a polymer support with branched polyethylene-imine (BPEI) which links GO nanosheets each other. A GO/BPEI membrane with interstitial amide bonding displays much enhanced stability than conventional GO membrane during sonication within a broad pH range (2-12). In addition, GO/BPEI membrane maintained filtration performance of typical GO membrane, as proved by the high permeation and rejection rates (>90%) for the dye molecules methylene blue, rose bengal, and brilliant blue. |
